In our last two blogs, we discussed what gum disease is, its symptoms, and how it can affect the rest of your body and your overall health. All of us at Chesheim Dental Associates also want you to know that despite how scary periodontal disease is, it is actually very easy to prevent.

There are two main ways to prevent gum disease that are simple and inexpensive daily habits – brushing your teeth and flossing. By brushing your teeth for 2-3 minutes twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste and by flossing regularly, your chances of developing gum disease greatly decrease.

How else can you keep your gums healthy?

In addition to brushing and flossing, there are several other ways that you can keep your gums, and your body, healthy.

  • Eat a balanced diet that limits sticky sweet foods

  • Don’t smoke. In fact, tobacco use increases your risk of gum disease by six times!

  • Visit your Erdenheim dentist at least twice a year for checkups and cleanings

Visiting our dental office in Erdenheim regularly is a great way to keep an eye on your oral health and also to spot any trouble areas before they have a chance to become big problems. If we do happen to find active gum disease, don’t worry. Although gum disease is a scary thing, it is easily treatable with early detection.
So if you’re due for a checkup or if you have concerns about the health of your gums, call your Erdenheim Dentists at Chesheim Dental to schedule your appointment today. Together we can stop gum disease and help keep you healthy.
